The next generation Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class SUV has been spotted undergoing road testing in Germany, ahead of what will likely be a mid-to-late 2014 reveal. This new model will be based on the W205 C-Class, and this is somewhat evident even in the design, both inside and out.
Mercedes recently launched the smaller GLA-Class crossover SUV based on front-wheel drive architecture. The GLA makes for a cheaper entry-level model, which means the GLK will be free to offer more space and equipment at a slightly higher price.

By no means does this mean that Mercedes will stop offering entry-level models. The 2.1-liter makes up the bulk of GLK sales in Europe, and this suits Mercedes just fine. However, we think the top 3.5-liter V6 needs to go, since it's neither a match for BMW's X3 35i in terms of performance nor all that economical.

We think a thinly vailed concept version of the GLK will be shown in Geneva next March, follwed by the full production model about six months later.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
