The 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK compact luxury crossover SUV won't get AMG treatment, said the division's director of vehicle development Tobias Moers, who doesn't see a market for the high-performance GLK.
"Right now we don't see that market. Maybe we will change our mind, but right now we don't see a marketing approach for that. It would be a huge investment for us… to make it a real AMG," Moers said.

The announcement comes as somewhat of surprise, after AMG agreed to power up more AWD models, such as the A-Class and the CLA-Class.

However, AMG representatives might change their mind after Porsche introduces their Macan compact crossover SUV: "Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche comes up, but right now, no", Moers added.

The next generation Mercedes-Benz GLK, which will be based on the MRA platform used for the new C-Class model, is set to arrive in 2015.
