Mercedes-Benz Germany has just announced official pricing information for the new CLA Shooting Brake, which is making its motor show debut in Detroit as we speak.
The wagon-bodied version of the CLA four-door coupe is the second Mercedes Benz to wear the Shooting Brake name (after the CLS), not to mention the cheapest. The entry-level model starts from just €29,809, which is around €600 more expensive than the regular four-door. That, to us, sounds like a bargain.

When arriving in dealerships this March 2015, the CLA estate will greet customers with a familiar entry-level car, the 180. This is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine making 122 PS and 20 Nm of torque. Performance isn't what you'd call inspiring, with 0 to 100 km/h sprints taking 9.4 seconds (9.3s with auto).

There's a more powerful version of the same engine available on the CLA 200, which delivers 156 hp and 250 Nm of torque. In this case, the sprint takes 8.7 seconds and top speed is increased by 15 to 225 km/h. However, the price also gets a big boost to €32,726 with a manual or €34,890 with an optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

Two diesels

For now, the diesel engine range is only made up of two units, both powered by the same 2.1-liter block. The entry-level CLA 200 CDI makes 136 hp and 300 Nm of torque, while the upper CLA 220 CDI model gives you 177 hp and 350 Nm of torque, only being available with an auto for the price of €39,061.

Performance

Finally, if you're really feeling generous with your cash and want a fast petrol-power CLA Shooting Brake, consider the CLA 250 (€39,746), the CLA 250 4MATIC (€41,947.50) and the CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC (€45,577) models. All three offer 211 PS and take between 7 and 6.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h, depending on the model.

That almost matches a supermini hot hatch, like a Clio RS. But for true performance, you've got to get the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake. Featuring 360 PS tuned 2-liter turbo, this beast will rocket to 100 km/h in only 4.7 seconds. It can be yours €57,268, which is a lot.
