Offering a fresh interpretation on the full-size luxury SUV segment, the Lincoln Navigator is packed with goodies for the 2015 model year. The biggest update with the 2015 MY comes in the form of a 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 380 ponies and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque.
Lincoln says that the standard-wheelbase 4x2 Navigator delivers best-in-class fuel economy, specifically 16 mpg city / 22 mpg highway / 18 mpg combined. Manufactured at the Cleveland Engine Plant, the new Ti-VCT engine employs a composite intake manifold in addition to a 6,100 rpm redline and a six-speed SelectShift automatic.
When properly equipped, the 2015 Navigator also delivers best-in-class towing of 9,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 1,570 pounds. Ford's luxury arm says that the new Navigator handles better than ever thanks to the addition of electric power-assisted steering and Drive Control, a system that changes damping settings every two milliseconds.
Three control modes are offered: normal, sport or comfort. Go for a four-wheel drive model and you also get Hill Descent Control as standard. Models fitted with the Select package get Nivomat, a trick load-leveling system that raises the rear end of the car to optimum ride height for better handling.
Matt VanDyke, director of the Lincoln brand, tells that “the 2015 Lincoln Navigator provides many upgrades over the outgoing model, offering customers new and compelling reasons to consider driving a Navigator.” Lincoln says that in total, the 2015 Navigator's exterior is adorned with no less than 222 LEDs, which look great together with the new design split-wing grille and standard 20-inch aluminum rims.
The base 2015 Lincoln Navigator is laden with all the comfort and technological features expected from a luxury SUV, including an 8-inch SYNC touchscreen infotainment system, a 4.2-inch screen in the instrument cluster, Blind Spot Information System, rearview camera and the usual leather and wood cabin trim. Customers can further enhance the Navigator with the Reserve Package, available for both the standard and long-wheel base models.
This package updates the cabin with premium leather on all three rows of seats, as well as to the armrests, center console lid and gear shift. Hand-wrapped leather on the instrument panel is also offered, together with contrasting stitching and a leather-wrapped glove box door. Premium Ziricote wood trim, a luxurious natural-grain wood new to the automotive industry that is most commonly used as an accent in yachts, completes the list of enhancements brought by the Reserve Package.
The 2015 Lincoln Navigator is due to arrive in showrooms later this year.
