The Blue Oval heralds the all-new sixth-gen Ford Mustang as being the nimblest example of the breed to date. But there's always that type of customer that wants better driving dynamics from a vehicle, therefore two performance packs are offered for the 2.3-liter turbo four-pot EcoBoost and 5-liter V8 GT.
Before we detail specific characteristics of the two optional packages, potential customers should know that both packs include a handful of shared go-faster bits and bobs. These include a center gauge pack, special ABS, electronic stability control and electric power-assisted steering tuning, retuned springs, bushings and monotube rear dampers, additional cooling for track-day duties, thicker rear sway bar and K-brace connecting strut towers.

In the case of the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, this mid-range model is propelled by a 2.3-liter powerhouse aided by a twin-scroll turbocharger to produce 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The optional EcoBoost Performance Package worth $1,995 will get you a suite of components designed to make the pony feel more racy. 3.55:1 final drive ratio, 19-inch alloy wheels finished in Ebony Black with Pirelli 255/40 Y-speed-rated tires on all four corners, single-piston rear brakes with 45-mm floating iron calipers and 330-mm rotors and four-piston brakes at the front with 46-mm fixed aluminum calipers and 352-mm rotors. If you don't wan't the wheels and final drive setup, you can't opt for a dedicated brake package, which consists of the aforementioned stopping units front and rear.

Stepping up to the 2015 Ford Mustang GT and its 5-liter Coyote V8 with 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, the GT Performance Package includes a unique front splitter that channels cool air to the front brakes. Up front, you get Brembo six-piston units with 36-mm fixed aluminum calipers and 380-mm rotors, while the rear system consists of single-piston 45-mm floating iron calipers with 330-mm rotors. The same Ebony Black wheels as on the EcoBoost pack are also included, but the rear wheels are 9.5-inch wide and wear 275/40 Y-speed rubber. Last but not least, the 3.73:1 final drive ratio with Torsen differential is there to provide lots of grip in the corners and lots of hoonage if the mood takes you there. Compared to the EcoBoost, the GT Performance Package retails at $2,495.

But get this - during track testing, the 2015 Ford Mustang GT enhanced with the GT Performance Package consistently beat the lap times of the 2012-2013 model year Ford Mustang Boss 302.
