We’ve seen tons of videos showing the 2015 Corvette Z06 in drag racing action. From the track to the street, using both standing and rolling starts, Chevy’s supercar manages to put on a show. But what about racing a piece of German metal from one generation ago?
We’re talking about something like a Porsche 911 GT2. The Zuffenhausen machine goes up against the Convertible version of the Z06, with the two engaging in a half-mile race.
Both cars use manual transmissions, but it seems the driver of the Z06 could improve his shifting skills. Despite this, the 911 falls behind at first, with the first part of the race making it look like the ‘Vette will certainly take the cake.
However, once the Porsche starts recovering, it never misses a beat, showing that ‘Vette who’s boss (no pun intended). The trap speed numbers for the half-mile race are shown at the end of the clip.
If we are to pull a bit of on-paper racing, the ‘Vette should clearly take the win here. For one thing, the power-to-weight ratio clearly offers the slab of America and advantage.
However, the Porsche wins most of the acceleration tests, whether we’re talking about the classic 0 to 60 sprint or the standing kilometer. In terms of the quarter mile, both cars have been clocked as low as 11.2 seconds, which only makes the battle more interesting.
And while everybody knows the bang-for-buck-savvy C7 Z06 is bonkers simply because it has gone down the ZR1’s supercharged route, the Porsche comes with its own special story.
The GT2 is such a wild car that it simply shouldn’t exist. Imagine a Porsche 911 Turbo with more power and using rear-wheel-drive instead of the Turbo’s all-four approach. And hey, it’s got four seats...

In theory, this shouldn’t happen
