General Motors has unveiled the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD full-size pickup truck at the Texas States Fair. Scheduled to arrive in dealerships next year, the Silverado HD has received the Silverado half-ton truck’s exterior design for better aerodynamics, improved efficiency and reduced wind noise.
Other new or updated exterior features include CornerStep rear bumper, EZ Lift and Lower tailgate, and standard upper tie-downs. On the tech side, the Silverado HD gained standard StabilitiTrak with Trailer Sway Control, integrated cruise control, auto grade braking, and diesel exhaust braking.
As far as powertrains are concerned, Chevy has enabled its 6.0-liter Vortec V8 to run on either gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG), while the regular Vortec V8 and Duramax turbodiesel provide 360 HP/380 lb-ft and 397 HP/765 lb-ft respectively.
The new trucks will be able to haul 7,374 pounds of payload, 19,600 pounds on a conventional hitch, and 23,200 pounds on a fifth-wheel hitch. The numbers are up from 7,222 lbs, 18,000 lbs, and 22,500 lbs on the previous model.
