If you’re interested in the über-SUV scene, then you probably already know about BMW’s newest machines - the X5 M and X6 M. However, we didn’t really get a chance to see them in motion up until now or listen to their new engines.
New engine? Yes, because even though the architecture and the displacement stayed the same, the two are now sharing a plant that makes more power and more torque than before. Actually, this is the torquiest mill BMW ever put in production.

That’s because compared to the original S63 unit, the S63Tü now makes 20 HP and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) more, for a grand total of 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). Thanks to these new numbers, the car is an absolute beast on the track.

Sure, it’s all nice and powerful but what about the sound?

BMW has been under a lot of fire lately, a lot of people claiming that their cars are no longer as aural as they used to. Most blame it on the forced induction but we already know that’s not the cause. How? Well, take a look at the current AMG lineup and you’ll get the point.

Therefore, what is it? Another group blames the Active Sound Design system inside the cabin that amplifies the sound of the engine for your enjoyment. While on the F10 M5 it used to be perceived rather differently than it should’ve, on the M3 and M4 it’s barely noticeable.

Hopefully, the X5 M and X6 M with their new mills will be up to par. Until we actually get to listen to them live, the best we can do is check them out in various videos like the one below, where BMW Works Driver Claudiu David makes the introductions. Check it out!
