NGM Mobile Forward Racing Team have confirmed they have a verbal agreement with Yamaha for leasing their M1 engines for the next MotoGP season. While a signed contract was not mentioned yet, we do believe that NGM will be an early bird, especially as the M1 power plant has performed quite well into this season, even on satellite machinery.
NGM has not made a definitive statement on whether they are going to stick with the FTR chassis currently running a 4-inline Kawasaki engine, but rumor has it they will not change the chassis manufacturer.
The team will be riding with Magneti Marelli's ECU just like the rest of the bikes in 2014, but with the Marelli software as well, thus making them a non-MSMA team and being granted a 24-liter fuel allocation, compared to the 20 liters MSMA teams can load in their bikes.
Earlier in June, Yamaha's Lin Jarvis said the factory can supply engines for 4 riders, and as the M1 power units can do around 3,000 km each, 5 units will be leased, out of which 2 will be rebuilt. We cannot wait to see how will the Yamaha M1 engine perform with the FTR chassis and Collin Edwards and Claudio Corti aboard the bikes!
