Cyril Despres is doubtlessly one of the great Dakar champions, with no less than 5 victories, 2 runner-up positions and one 3rd place in the last 10 years. After parting with KTM, Despres was welcomed in Team Blue (Yamaha) and is now looking forward to try and win for the third time in a row.

We were thrilled to hear Cyril recollecting his memories of another Dakar giant, fellow countryman Stephan Peterhansel and the way the new Yamaha rider was looking up to him. An Yamaha rider as well, Peterhansel won the Dakar 6 times before switching for the cars class in 1999.
The 2014 Dakar will be quite a thrilling battle as Cyril Despres' former team mate Marc Coma is back to racing, after being forced to call it quits in 2013 due to an incomplete recovery after a crash prior to Dakar. For several years, Coma and Despres took turns in winning the Dakar, and on some occasions, the battle was absolutely magnificent.
The next edition of the Dakar rally kicks off on January 5th and will pass through Argentina, Chile and for the first time, Bolivia.
