Introduced earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, Chevrolet’s no-frills, naturally-aspirated 2014 Camaro Z/28 just lapped the Nurburgring in an impressive 7 minutes and 37.47 seconds, less than a second faster than the Porsche 911 Carrera S and Lexus LFA.
Even though it’s no match for the 2012 Corvette ZR1 or the Z06, which stopped the clock at 7:19.53 and 7:22.68 respectively, we have to acknowledge that the 2014 Camaro Z/28 is an all-motor pony that doesn’t benefit from the ZL1’s 580 supercharged horsepower.
In fact, we don’t know how much power resides under the Z/28’s hood, as Chevy has yet to reveal official output figures for the Corvette-sourced 7.0-liter LS7 V8 powerplant, which is currently rated at “500+”.
But let’s leave figures and assumptions aside for a minutes and watch the Camaro Z/28 taking its 7-minute lap around the Nurburgring. Don’t forget to turn up the speakers, that mill sound heavenly. We actually recommend it as coffee each morning...
