‘The i3 is amazing’. That’s how the autoblog review of BMW’s first ever all-electric vehicle begins. What a way to go. The guys were in Amsterdam at the Bavarians’ request and were impressed of what they found.
Just like they said, we’d like to reiterate: if you’re expecting the i3 to be some sort of M car for the crowded city you live in, lower your expectations. This car was indeed built by BMW and does wear its roundel on the bonnet but it had a different purpose in mind rather than tearing up tires in roundabouts and doing drag races between lights.
It was built to be eco-friendly and practical in traffic. At that, the i3 truly shines. The interior makes you feel cosy and comfortable, even if you sit in the back. The materials used are of the best possible quality, not to mention that they are made of all sorts of recycled stuff.
The connectivity level is beyond anything you imagined and, in case you run out of battery, you will be guided to your destination using the car’s navigation system that connects to your phone and tell you where to go. You can then use public transit or even go by foot to where ever you need to go.
Talking about running out of battery, so far, every test confirmed the estimated range claimed by BMW and autoblog was no different. That’s good news for the Netherlands but in other areas of the world things might be different. We’ll have to wait and see.
Bottom line: the i3 might lack in agility and straight up performance but it does what it’s supposed to and it does it brilliantly.
