The i3 is now reaching its first customers, the first deliveries already being taken care of. Of course, with them, the i3 was also sent out to various journalists to test for themselves.
The UK is one of the first markets to receive BMW’s first ever EV and therefore, the UK-based journalists, such as What Car?, get to test it first.
The first thing you notice about the i3 is how quiet it goes down the street, after looking at its exterior and interior, of course. Being an electric car, that is expected but even with the range extender feature (which is a 2-cylinder scooter engine mounted in the back) the noise is minimal.
The interior is charming, of course, and you can really see BMW struggled to make this model unique and feel eco in every way. Getting in the back is easy thanks to the suicide doors but legroom could be limited for taller people.
The range BMW promises is attainable but maybe not in the UK with its lousy weather. Even so, you could still pull around 60 miles on a full charge and 100 more with the REx.
As a practical car, you do get a decent boot but some of the space has been sacrificed for the batteries so don’t expect the new car to haul the luggage for a 4-person family.
Even so, the advantages of the i3 are obvious: no congestion tax in the UK, parking spots, access to downtown areas, etc. Those are just a few, not to mention the dynamics of the car. For the full review, check out the video.
