Just as BMW announced, the i Brand was on the scene at the 2013 LA Auto Show with its first 2 cars, the i3 and its bigger brother, the i8. Since they made their North American debut, they were introduced to the public concealed under veils, to keep the audience excited.
Once the veils came off, the press representatives (as the event isn’t open for the wide audience yet) got to feast their eyes on the new electric vehicles.

The i3 is already available for orders and the first signs are more than optimistic, braking even the most enthusiastic expectations. Over 8,000 orders were place before the car arrived in showrooms and made BMW consider increasing the plant’s production to make sure everyone gets their EV as fast as possible.

The i8 on the other hand, is going on sale next year and will be looking to bring fun, sporty driving and eco-friendliness together under one roof.

The sports coupe will be using the same engine as on the i3 but with less power (131 HP vs 170 HP) and a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo unit that makes 231 HP. The total output is ranked at 362 HP and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque.

Prices for the i3 start at USD41,350 before the incentives whilst the i8 will start at USD135,925 in the US.
