On the new BMW X5 model, the design of the window washer stalk has been slightly redesigned and might turn out to be a bit confusing for a newcomer to the BMW interior and setup.
In this regard, we thought it would be a good idea to let you know how it works, in a few short sentences. The fact is that the new models will come fitted with rain sensors that will automatically adjust the speed of your wipers and turn them on.

However, if you feel like they don't work as you want them to, you can also manually adjust them. Press the stalk upwards once for continuos normal wiping speed and press it twice for faster wipes. To deactivate them, just press the stalk in the other direction once or twice, depending on the setup. Pressing the stalk downwards once will initiate a brief wipe.

For the back window you'll need to twist the switch upward once and the use the stalk as you'd do for the windshield. Also, the system will automatically turn on when reverse is engaged. To use the spray for the rear window, press the switch upwards as you'd do when cleaning the windshield.

However, the most comfortable setting would probably be to use the automatic system. To enable it just press the button at the end of the stalk and then adjust the speed using the thumb wheel located on the stalk. For more info, check the video below.
