After two consecutive teaser videos, a brand new member of the Audi family was supposed to be revealed tomorrow morning. However, we have the first photo of that ring-bearer, taking all the guesswork and the anticipation out of the equation.
I'd hate to say "I told you so!"… but I actually did, right after the very first angles of the car were shown in the second video back on February 5th. This is the S1 quattro, basically a supermini with everything on it, including all-wheel drive, an automatic double-clutch gearbox and a powerful 2-liter engine. And we're not talking MINI's 192 PS sort of power, but 230 PS Golf GTI sort of power.

Because I'm the resident Audi fan of the office, I'm also going to tell you about all the other changes on the S1 that you might not notice at first glance. First, there's the all-black grille with only seven lines instead of the usual 13. Silver mirrors are a typical Audi S model tough and so are the wheels. The air intakes aren't that different, but the headlights are hugely changed. This is because the normal A1 is receiving a facelift and will drop the wavy pattern in favor of the clean LEd design you see here.

Overall, the S1 quattro is a fantastic little pocket rocket. Maybe it's a little understated compared to the MINI Cooper JCW, but that's just Audi design for you.
