The fresh Beetle is ready to take over the US and it seems that the car has a new card up its sleeve for this game: a diesel engine for America. The 2013 Beetle TDI is scheduled to make its debut at the Chicago Auto Show, as Autoblog writes.
Volkswagen has confirmed to the aforementioned source that the diesel Bug will arrive at the event, but the automotive producer hasn’t offered any details on the vehicle.
However, the Beetle will probably get VW’s 2.0-liter TDI unit, which is already used in multiple other models, delivering 140 hp and a peak torque of 236 lb-ft, with the engine probably set to be offered with both a six-speed manual and a dual-clutch DSG gearbox.
In addition to that, it seems that the TDI unit will also be offered on the upcoming Beetle Convertible, which would turn the car into one interesting mix between efficiency and coolness.
