The all-new Range Rover has not yet begun being delivered (it’s on sale but not delivered), but already it’s won an award in Sunday Times Driving Top 100 Cars, where it triumphed in the 4x4 category.
“Since its launch in 1970 it has set the standard all others have tried — and usually failed — to reach. It is the only car in the world in which you would feel equally comfortable driving across the Sahara, going shooting or giving it to the doorman at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco,” the judges from the UK magazine said.

Even Land Rover admits that “no journalist has driven the car yet, but a passenger ride with Land Rover’s Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, Mike Cross was enough to convince the jurors.”

As you probably know by now, the new Range Rover is much lighter than its predecessor. It’s also the orld’s first all-aluminium monocoque SUV. Power is available from a choice of either 3.0-liter TDV6, 339 PS SDV8 or 510PS LR-V8.

Deliveries in the UK will start in January 2013. Then we’ll know what’s what.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
