2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Rumors

The Porsche 911 GT3 is some sort of a golden fish, one that only fulfills a single, pre-determined wish: that of driving a racing car on the road. This is why we’re more than interested in the car and thus are happy to share with you a set of rumors that come to offer us certain clues about the next generation of the vehicle, which should arrive in 2013.

The info was published on the Rennlist forum, as one member claims that the had a conversation about the next 911 GT3 with someone who “is in a very high position within P-motorsport”.

The 991 (this will be the internal name of the next-generation 911) GT3 will deliver 480 hp, with its engine being placed further forward, which will bring it pretty close to the mid-engine layout. This could make sense, but it still pretty hard to believe that Porsche has decided to retire the rear-engined layout after 50 years of service.

Want something that we trust even less? The source says that the vehicle will drop the manual gearbox in favor of a double-clutch one (named PDK-S), a move that would be a sacrilege, considering the vehicle’s character.

Moving on, we’ll tell you that the car will come with a weight reduction of between 180 and 200 lbs (80 and 90 kg), as it will make extensive use of composite materials. Fortunately, it seems that Porsche won’t drop any hybrid nonsense in the GT3, as the company is aware of the fact that such a development wouldn’t suit the car’s spirit.
