Jorge Lorenzo is still the fastest rider at Phillip Island as the practice sessions ended. Dani Pedrosa topped the FP3 and FP4, but the lap time Lorenzo posted in FP2 (1m28s961) remains the best time of all outings.
As FP3 is the last one to decide which riders enter Q2, it remains to be seen who will complete the last two positions on the 4th grid.

So far Pedrosa and Marquez are second and third, with Rossi 4th and Bautista with a pleasantly-surprising 5th position. Bradley Smith switched places with Crutchlow and sits in 6th, with Hayden posting a decent 8 place.

Ninth and tenth were Colin Edwards and Randy de Puniet, who have pushed the CRT leader Aleix Espargaro into Q1. It looks like Espargaro and Dovizioso will have to battle the rest of the riders in Qualifying 1 for the remaining slots in the 4th grid at Phillip Island.

We remind you that the GP Commission has enforced the recommendations made by Bridgestone and will compel teams to use the tires suggested by the tire supplier and approved by the Technical Director. This measure is a response to the tires wearing much faster on the newly-resurfaced Phillip Island.

On the less haute-tension side, Australian Casey Stoner officially became a MotoGP Legend, being handled the title by Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. Twice a World Champion and still being one of the fastest riders ever, Stoner celebrated his 28th birthday earlier this week.

"It almost seemed a bit unrealistic when I was offered this, but I am not going to turn it down either. I appreciate being put alongside riders like that, even though sometimes I don’t feel like I deserve to be there. I am very proud of the achievements we had during our times in Grands Prix," the Aussie told motogp.com.

Stoner will also be in the company of two other MotoGP Legends Mick Doohan and Wayne Gardner in a lap of honor at Phillip Island this weekend.
