Last night, reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo has undergone a successful operation to repair his broken left collarbone following the high-speed crash he had in Assen, the Netherlands yesterday.
The 2-hour-long operation was performed at the Hospital general de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, by Dr. Joaquin Rodriguez, assisted by Dr. Ana Carreras, Dr. Marcos Cots and Dr. Michele Zasa of the Clinica Mobile. A titanium plate was installed with 8 screws, and as Jorge woke from the anesthesia, the medical team will check his post-op status to evaluate the rehabilitation time.
Jorge was flown to Barcelona because there was no operation room available in Assen, due to some urgent, life-threatening surgeries. The team decided that Jorge's collar bone was not a priority so an operation room was readied in Barcelona, with the surgery starting around 2am local time, Yamaha Team Manager Wilco Zeelenberg told MotoGP.com.
