Ladies and gentlemen, here we are giving you a piece of news we never thought we’d write: this year’s Gumball 3000 Rally promises to be a zero emission event!
Don’t worry, we haven’t reached an apocalyptic future where the Gumballers use pedal and wind power. Instead the Rally teamed up with CNI UK, a “provider in the voluntary carbon offset market.”

CNI UK is entering the 2013 Gumball with managing director, Edward Carlton, behind the wheel, while the British company will take care of compensating for the CO2 emissions of the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and other high HP cars taking part in the 3000 mile drive.

CNI explains how all this works, telling us that it’s “assisting organisations in becoming carbon neutral. The company specialises in the procurement, sale and retirement of Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) credits and supports carefully selected projects around the world, such as wind farms in India, waste heat recovery in China and hydroelectric in Brazil. These projects generate credits by providing a renewable energy source to the local area that would have otherwise relied on carbon intensive fossil fuel power generation.”

Our say: buy me some extra credits daddy, I’ll also burn some rubber along with the gas!
