Ford has taken the wraps off the brand new 2013 Fusion, a vehicle that like its Escape SUV cousin has been designed with the global market in mind. Under the “One Ford” banner, the sedan that debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show later today will also be sold as a Mondeo in Europe.
As a US model, the non-hybrid Fusion will be offered with a choice of three gasoline engines, starting with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 170 horsepower. But Ford has place a high emphasis on fuel economy and so the rest of the range is all turbocharged.
The newly introduced to the range 1.6-liter EcoBoost will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission and should produce 179 horsepower, while the more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost makes 237 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The 1.6 EcoBoost model will deliver best in class economy figures of 26 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.
