Ford is teasing the 2013 Escape by offering us an exemplification of “a kick in the a## is still a step forward” : the Blue Oval is showcasing the vehicle’s new hand-free power liftgate, which can be activate by kicking... the air beneath the rear bumper.
The new Escape, which is set to arrive on November 18 at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, comes with the aforementioned feature as a segment-first and relies on two sensors placed in the rear bumper, with Ford explaining that you need to have the key in your pocket in order to operate the system and that is has been programed only to be opened by foot movement, so it probably can’t be fooled by small animals.
The new Escape is underpinned by Ford’s C platform and comes with a global engine range that includes three four-cylinder petrol units: two turbocharged Ecoboost engines, a 1.6-liter and a 2.0-liter, as well as a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Ti-VCT unit.
