If you were wondering if Chevrolet really did move the Malibu sedan away from its roots of a boring rental car with bad performance, this new engine will set you straight.
GM has already announced that the brand new 2013 Malibu sedan will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. But they left us to speculate just how much power it’s got.
Today, the 2.0L Ecotec turbo has been revealed as being SAE-certified at 259 horsepower (193 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm). Its peak torque is sustained from 1,700 to 5,500 rpm. The top-of-the-range model is fitted with direct fuel injection.
What’s turbo has enough power to push the relatively heavy mid-size to 60 mph (98 km/h) in 6.3 seconds.
