2012 Volkswagen Beetle Earns 5-Star Euro NCAP Rating

The Euro NCAP has just released a new series of crash test results and we’re here to focus on the 2012 VW Beetle, a vehicle that was among the safest tested in this lot, with a five-star rating, 92 percent for adult occupant protection, 90 percent for child occupant protection, 53 percent for pedestrian protection, as well as 86 percent for safety assist.
The passenger compartment kept its shape well during the frontal impact, with dummy readings showing good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. However the steering column could posed a risk to occupants of other sizes and sitting in different positions.

The fresh Beetle received the maximum number of points for the side impact and in the more sever side pole test, the protection of the test was adequate while the other body areas received good protection. The seat and the head restraint offered good protection against whiplash injuries in the even of a rear-end accident.

The protection for child occupants, as well as the information connected to this offered to the driver was good. When it came to pedestrians, the bumper offered good protection, but the front edge of the bonnet didn’t score any points. The bonnet offers good protection for children, but marginal one for adults. We've posted a video of the crash test, as well as one of the original Beetle test, so you can see what all the years of evolution have brought in terms of safety.
