Every edition of the Texas State Fair is sure to attract more new pickup trucks than anything else, with every automaker eager to show they make the biggest, the baddest and the strongest workhorses that will still look good parked next to your musclecar.
With a quarter of all vehicles sold in Texas being pickups, it’s no wonder that Toyota brought over something special. We’re talking about a new limited edition version of the recently refreshed Tacoma truck.

The TRD T|X Baja is the most hardcore version of the Tacoma that was ever made. It’s basically what TRD dreamed up as a response to the SVT and Mopar guys. Toyota a good couple of decades of racing in the desert, so it’s only natural that TRD released something to impress everybody.

Based on the best-selling compact pickup in the States, the TRD T|X Baja Series limited edition takes the the off-road capability to new levels with 60mm piston Bilstein race shocks and TRD’s own coil springs, This creates an extra inch in wheel travel up front and an extra 2-inch ride height. At the back, we have 50mm Bilstein shocks so rear wheel travel has been increased 1.5-inches.

The Tacoma TRD T|X is offered in the Access Cab or Double Cab configurations with the 4.0-liter V6 and a choice of either six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.

Other features include TRD Off-Road package, custom wheels, BF Goodrich T/A KO tires (LT265/70R16), a TRD cat-back exhaust and Baja Series graphics on the sides.

“The Tacoma has long been the sales leader by a wide margin in the compact pickup segment thanks to its well-earned reputation for stellar quality, durability, reliability and off-road capability,”
said Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. “The limited edition TRD T|X Baja Series adds another chapter to Toyota’s truck legacy by offering a new level of capability for off-road enthusiasts.”

Pricing information should be announced closer to the spring 2012 release date.
