The new generation of Porsche 911 looked very good on paper, mixing economy and performance in greater quantities than ever before, but we were always concerned that the extra room inside made it a bit of a compromise.
Our worries have been laid to sleep as Go Auto reports the Carrera S has managed to lob an impressive 13 seconds off its old time round the Nurburgring. The 2012 model year that will start arriving at showrooms across Europe has set a time of 7:40 around the famous German circuit, which makes it as fast as the GT3 track-focused version of the 997 generation it replaces.
This is about as humiliating for owners of that model as the Aventador is for owners of the Murcielago Super Veloce. We can’t say that the GT3 isn’t a driver’s car with more feel, so the next one should be something to behold.
It’s interesting to think that only 15 more horsepower and a wight loss program have translated to 13 seconds round the track, so the suspension must be much better than the old one. The Germans must truly want the Turbo to be a match for the GT-R.
