We're not the kind of nostalgics that don't favor evolution - even our name says that - but when we heard that the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show is going to bring us a new incarnation (991) of the Porsche 911, we were both thrilled and sad, as we just don't want to see the current generation of the car (997) go away. Well, it seems that our wish has been fulfilled, but not in the way that we expected.
So, while on the road the 997 will be put to sleep, those who determine to use the car on the track will receive the 2012 911 GT3 R, a car that comes with multiple upgrades.
We have to start at the back of the racer, where the 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer has been gifted with an optimized air intake and now offers an extra 20 hp, allowing the driver to play with a total of 500 naturally-aspirate horses.
In addition to that, the vehicle's six-speed sequential gearbox, which talks to the driver via paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel, has been upgraded an is now able to change faster.
Maybe more importantly, Porsche has decided to reduce understeer and, as a result, the car now has a softer anti-roll bar for the front axle.
In case you haven't set up a team already you'd better hurry, as the deliveries are scheduled to commence in November. Oh, and be prepared to spend EUR304,500 ($434,170) on the car (VAT not included).
