Lancia will come at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show in March with what could only be described as its most-awaited product, the all-new Ypsilon. The company has just published on its official website the first photos of the revised Ypsilon which boasts a more modern and sporty look with a two-tone finish that will probably be offered on top-of-the-range trim levels.
Not much is currently known about the new Ypsilon, except for the rumors that surfaced a pretty long time on the Internet. The Ypsilon is believed to rely on a total of three engines provided by Fiat, as follows: a 0.9 SGE, the 1.4 Multiair and the 1.3 Multijet diesel. A hybrid version is also in the works, but Lancia and Fiat remain tightlipped on the subject.
Sales in Europe are expected to begin either in late 2011 or in early 2012, but Fiat has pretty low expectations from the model considered to mark the revival of the Lancia brand. Deliveries shouldn't exceed 1,800 units per year, sources from within the company hinted.
The new Ypsilon will be offered exclusively as a five-door model and will be based on Fiat 500's platform, but with an extended wheelbase for a more roomier cabin.
autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
