Hyundai’s latest hatch, the Golf-rivaling i30 just launched onto the European market, has been given a five-star safety rating by the famous Euro NCAP safety body, after the car performed adequately in all the areas tested.
In the case of a head-on collision passenger compartment of the i30 remained stable. Adult dummy reading showed good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Protection of the chest was adequate and that of other body regions was good in the side barrier test. In the more severe side pole test, protection of the chest was weak. The seat and head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
As for child occupant protection, Hyundai showed it can bring A-game to the table, with a 90% percent protection score, which can be considered quite high.
The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians and the car scored maximum points in this area. The front edge of the bonnet provided predominantly good protection. Only protection of the adult head was found to be lacking.
Electronic stability control is standard equipment on the new i30 and met Euro NCAP's requirements.
