2012 BMW M5 Online Configurator Now Available

The paint hasn’t dried yet on the new BMW M5, and the Bavarian automaker has already made available an online configurator of the model... for its German customers. Despite the fact that the news of some 10 percent increase in the power output combined with a 30 percent decrease in fuel consumption could be enough for some, we were curious to see what the F10 has to offer in addition to that.

By accessing the online configurator at this link, you’ll find out not only the color options, but also some some of the vehicle’s standard features.

For instance, customers will be able to choose their new M5 in a wide range of exterior colors and interior trims: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic paint, Havana, Silverstone, Space Grey, Imperial Blue, Grey Singapore and Monte Carlo Blue.

Also, Merino Leather upholstery, Head Up Display, Xenon lights, park distance control at both front and rear, are to be included as standard in the model. What we do know from a previous official statement from BMW is that available options include Comfort Access, M multifunction seats, active seats, doors with Soft Close Automatic function, hands-free tailgate opening, electric glass roof, and trailer coupling.

We’ll remind you the new M5 is fitted with a 4.4-liter turbocharged engine developing. 560 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) of maximum torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic.

This combination enables the new M5 to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds. In order to reach 124 mph (200 km/h), the new M5 needs about 13 seconds. The top speed, however, is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h), but the M Driver’s Package brings it up to 189 mph (305 km/h). In addition, the new M Drive buttons on the steering wheel allow for two individually configured set-ups.

Meanwhile, while we wait for the full options and features catalog, we are also left pondering on how much it will cost.
