2012 BMW M5 Video Teaser Released

The M from BMW is about to get a new definition soon. As if the 1 Series M coupe was just a warm-up for the real thing, the M5, the bigger, meaner, more powerful version of the 5 Series, is expected to hit the streets, dealerships and new levels of performance sometime this year.

To be revealed, according to BMWblog, in between June 23 and 26 at the German automaker's M Festival, the M5 revealed a little more of itself on Tuesday, in a video showing the model doing some very fast runs on the Nardo Ring in the south of Italy.

Of course, this is not the first, and will probably not be the last of the M5 teasers we see. Since it prepared the launch of the 1 Series M, BMW has made a habit of building over excitement over its models way ahead of their launch; 'cause word is the public won't get the chance to experience the M5 anytime sooner than the Frankfurt Auto Show later this fall.

For what it's worth, the M5 is one of the best kept secrets in the BMW garages, with little actual details being released one way or another. Rumor is the model will use the same engine fitted on the M versions of BMWs SUVs, with all the required tweaks for the 2012 model year.

Figures might show a troop comprising 570 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque, enough to pull the vehicle past the 62 mph threshold in 4.4 seconds. Watch the video below to get an idea of how that feels.
