2011 Volkswagen Golf R Details Released

German carmaker Volkswagen just revealed details on the new Golf R, considerably different compared to the regular Golf in terms of exterior styling. The 2011 VW Golf R is powered by the same 2.0 TSI turbo four-cylinder direct injection engine that outputs 199 kW / 270 hp and 350 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm, making it the most powerful version of the model series ever built.

The new Golf R is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and reportedly performs even better when shifted with the optional direct shift gearbox (DSG), reaching the 100 km/h mark in just 5.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the 2011 Volkswagen Golf R is limited to 250 km/h.

The car offers a 21% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the R32 (27.7 mpg), while CO2 emissions are reduced from 255 to 199 g/km.

Aside form these good performance figures, the 2011 Volkswagen Golf R is also packed with technology, including Bi-Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights.

Outside, it is customized by features such as the new "Talladega" style wheels, black brake calipers with R-logo and new bumper design. The Golf R also has side skirt extensions in body color and mirror housings painted in high-gloss black.

Inside, the Golf R boasts restyled gearshift knob, carpet floor mats with piping in "Art Grey", aluminum door tread plates with R-logo, stainless steel sport pedals and door accents in "Silver Lane" styling round out the custom features.

Standard equipment on the Golf R also includes an automatic climate control system ("Climatronic") and the "RCD 310" radio-CD system (4 x 20 Watt) with MP3 player plus dual tuners.

The manufacturer did not release any pricing information yet, but is expected to do so in the following weeks.
