Here’s a bit of a conundrum: Ford will soon offer a Fiesta ST in Europe with 180 hp from its 1.6-liter EcoBoost, but will Americans ever buy such a thing? The old one was a creature that pitted against stuff that doesn’t exist any more, like the Citroen C2 VRS, but the 2012 model will be more expensive, but a lot more refined as well.
To find out just how interested North American consumers are in the Fiesta ST, Ford is bringing a brand spanking new concept version that has only been revealed in September to the LA Auto Show later this month.
The Fiesta ST is important in the US not only because its something that Ford hasn’t really offered in a while, but also because it will be launched together with the facelift for the car that has been available in Europe ever since 2008. This refresh will bring bigger headlights and a new grille that follows that on the Focus. The concept you see in the picture is a good indication of what it will look like.
“The Fiesta has a rich history of high-performance models so a new ST performance model is a logical next step in our performance vehicle strategy for our global small cars,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development.
“With a racing silhouette inspired by global Fiesta race and rally cars currently competing on the world stage, and influenced by the unique appearance of the all-new Focus ST, the new Fiesta ST Concept is an exciting demonstration of the road-going Fiesta’s potential,” Kuzak added.
