German manufacturer Audi let slip today the launch date of the new A7 Sportback in a promotional video announcing the presentation. Audi will pull the wraps off the A7 at the "Pinakothek der Moderne München" museum on July 26.
Based on the A7 Sportback concept first shown at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, the new model in the Audi line-up will boast pretty much the same dramatic lines as the concept. The 2+2 four-door coupe is manufactured on Audi's modular longitudinal build kit (LBK) on which the A8 is also based, making it larger in size than the current A6.
Engine wise, the new A7 is expected to boast a 3.0l V6 gasoline engine with 268 horsepower and a 4.2l V8 developing 372 horsepower. As far as diesels go, the A7 will use a 3.0l engine capable of 250 horsepower and a 4.2-liter V8 good for 350 horsepower.
The S version of the model will follow, packing either the carmaker's new supercharged 3.0l V6, or possibly the 4.2l V8. Just to give you a taste of how much power the engine packs, it's enough to tell you the RS7 version is expected to feature a 580 horsepower V10 unit.
The A7 will mark Audi’s entry into the four-door Grand Tourer market, so the new fastback will face competition from the likes of Mercedes CLS and BMW 5 Series GT.
Further details about the A7 are expected to be released as we get closer to the official presentation date, so stay tuned.
