So far 125 BMW motorcycles have been recalled in a Canadian safety campaign (#2013209), but just like pretty much every time when such a thing happens, we might get to see more machines recalled in the US, too.
BMW F700GS and F800GS motorcycles manufactured between 2011 and 2013 will be inspected by authorized BMW dealers for a safety issue affecting the side stand sensor.
This sensor trigger a kill switch which shuts down the engine when the kickstand is lowered while a gear is engaged. Now held in place by a circlip, the sensor might come loose and become damaged, thus failing to kill the engine when needed.
Needless to say that a lowered kickstand while riding is a major safety hazard for both rider and other motorists. The dealers will inspect the bikes an install a bolt to prevent the sensor from loosening. We'll be back with news in case the NHTSA detects the same problem with US bikes, too.
