Toyota has just unveiled the 2010 4Runner at the Texas State Fair, bringing with it a fresh face and upgraded interiors.
The new 4Runner range doesn't include the optional V8 engine anymore but it now boasts a tweaked 4.0-liter V6 configuration that produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter unit that releases a maximum output of 157 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. There's a single transmission available across the entire range, namely a five-speed automatic.
Toyota improved the car's off-road abilities and added a new suspension design with double wishbones up front and a solid axle at the rear. According to edmunds.com, the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) is available as an option. A new system allows the vehicle to better control the throttle, the traction control and braking to obtain the best off-road experience.
As for the interiors, the Japanese manufacturer revised the dashboard and introduced new radio and climate controls. New gauges are available as well, the aforementioned source noted.
Toyota hasn't mentioned the price of the new range but according to a recent report, the 2010 4Runner will be offered with the same price tag as the current model, in a broader attempt to boost sales of this particular model. The unchanged pricing is basically a result of the declining sales the 4Runner witnessed in the last few months. In August for example sales of the SUV fell 63 percent, in spite of the $28,640 price set by Toyota.
The 4Runner will be manufactured at Toyota's Tahara factory in Japan.
