2010 SEAT Ibiza ST Confirmed

During a speech at SEAT's annual meeting, the company's president Erich Schmitt confirmed that the Spanish manufacturer will produce a sport tourer variant of SEAT Ibiza expected to arrive in 2010. Unfortunately, there are no details at this point as the manufacturer preferred to keep the model away from our eyes. However, taking into account that it will come in the form of a sport tourer, the car will provide a roomier interior compared to the standard Ibiza's, with several technologies aimed at fuel consumption likely to be included as well.

"In 2008, we made significant progress with regard to our products. The new Ibiza represents a quantum leap in terms of precision and quality for SEAT. The Exeo opens the door to further market segments," Erich Schmitt, President of SEAT, commented at the Annual Press Conference in Martorell.

The fourth generation SEAT Ibiza, which was officially presented to the general public at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show is currently on sale under the 5-door format, with 3-door models expected to reach the market anytime soon. The Sport Tourer will likely incorporate one of the engines used by Volkswagen on Station Wagon models but, once again, this is all speculation.

"Customers want attractive, top quality vehicles regardless of whether times are good or bad. That is why we are launching ten new models that suit customers' tastes this year and thereby positioning ourselves for better times," Erich Schmitt pointed out.

He added: "And next year we will be launching the third variant of our successful Ibiza model, a wagon version, which we will be producing here in Martorell. This will be the Ibiza ST."
