2010 British Grand Prix Clashes with FIFA World Cup Final

An important clash is scheduled to take place in 2010 between the world of Formula One and one of the most important sporting competitions in the world, the FIFA World Cup. As confirmed by the FIA calendar issued for the 2010 Formula One Championship, one of the series' most popular races – the British Grand Prix – is to take place the same day as the FIFA World Cup's final.

Imagine what would happen if England, currently coached by Fabio Capello, would qualify for the final of this football event. The British fans will likely have a tough decision to make that Sunday (to say the least).

The media in the UK has already started to make jokes on the FIA gaffe, referring to this incredible coincidence as the “clash-gate”.

If Bernie Ecclestone does not proceed to change the 2010 calendar in order to make things right for the British fans, this will prove another blow for the Donington Park. The venue who already has a hard time coming up with the funds for securing the 2010 British Grand Prix will likely suffer a drop in attendance for the next year event.

However, in order to prevent such a thing from happening at their very debut in the Great Circle, it is believed the Donington Park officials have already considered “erecting big screens so that the evening's big match can still be watched,” as reported by the GMM news agency.

The 2010 British Grand Prix is scheduled on July 11.
