Donington Dismisses F1 Doubts

Although it was hinted that Donington Park was not ready to fulfill the FIA demands in terms of upgrading their facility for hosting Formula One events, a spokesman for the circuit yesterday dismissed Silverstone was on pole for retaining the British Grand Prix from 2010 onwards.

There has been no response to the internet reports as they have no substance or factual basis. Donington Park still holds the contract for F1 for 17 years from 2010,” said a Donington spokesman, according to local Derby Telegraph.

The rumors suggesting that Donington Park will not be able to host a Formula One race starting next year – despite signing the aforementioned deal with the Formula One execs – appeared after details of the necessary funding for upgrade works were not presented to the media by the circuit's leaseholder Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd in nether March nor July, as initially announced.

Although DVLL's chief executive Simon Gillett is yet to issue the information, the spokesman insisted everything is going according to plan and that the aforementioned details will be disclosed in September.

In addition, DVLL closed a significant deal with Red Grouse Properties for the update of the Leicestershire-based facility earlier this month, as a clear sign that Donington will be ready to meet the FIA requirements by later this year. RGP was previously involved in the Wembley Stadium and O2 Arena projects in London, as reported by the GMM news agency.

(Red Grouse Properties) chief Jayne (McGivern) will ensure that all of the new work on site is completed in a timely manner and to the highest standards,” announced the Donington Park officials in a statement for the press in early August.
