Transport Canada, the Canadian government department in charge of transportation in the country, released the latest recalls, with 2009 Volvo S80, {ad]2008 Saturn Vue and 2009 Volkswagen Touareg the "stars" of the notifications.
To get straight to the point, an engine cooling fan in 309 2008-2009 Volvo S80, Volvo V70 and Volvo XC70 might stop working due to a software programming error in the fan control module. This means no climate control for the driver which, during summer, is like bringing hell on earth given the extremely high temperatures nowadays. Dealers will replace the fan control module at no charge.
3,026 2008 Saturn Vues are also recalled by the parent company because the outside door handles may stick or bind so the door might not latch when closed.
No less than 1,181 2007-2009 Volkswagen Touaregs are affected by a glitch concerning the fastening struts on the roof edge spoiler that could develop cracks over time. This basically means the spoiler might get loose and finally detach from the car. As expected, dealers will install reinforcement wedges to the roof edge spoiler.
Last but not least, BMW is recalling 160 1 Series and 3 Series because "incorrect crimp connectors may have been used during vehicle assembly on the side airbag and belt tensioner wiring," as Transport Canada wrote.
"As a result, there may be insufficient contact between the crimp connectors and the corresponding plug, resulting in the airbag and/or seatbelt tensioner not deploying in a crash when deployment would be warranted. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair the wiring harness for the front side airbags and seatbelt tensioners."
