Auto Bild's “Sports Car of the Year” award stays in Germany this year, with the announcement that two of Audi's models, the TT RS and R8 5.2 FSI, have managed to snatch the prize in the Production Coupe categories. In addition to the recognition the two sports cars got, Audi also managed to dominate the German magazine's awards.
The Ingolstadt carmaker managed to have its S5 Cabriolet (Production Convertible/Roadster), RS 6 (Production Sedan), S4 Avant (Production Station Wagon), and Q7 V12 TDI (Production SUV) placed in the top five of their respective classes and were presented with their prizes at the Essen Motor Show this weekend, in front of no less than 650 guests.
The winning cars were designated after 51,637 Auto Bild readers joined the magazines editors in their quest for the best. Additionally, the sport cars underwent some 300 tests and road reports.
"The panel of experts at Auto Bild SportsCars only crowns pure-blooded sports cars as “Sports Car of the Year.” In conjunction with TÜV Rheinland (Rhineland Inspection Authority), the magazine’s jurors regularly conduct exacting road tests to thoroughly assess the latest sports cars," Audi says in a release.
To remind you, the Audi TT RS is powered by a 2.5l turbocharged engine, developing 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque, while the R8 5.2 FSI, powered by a 5.2l engine, develops 525 hp and 530 Nm of torque.
