With everyone focused on the latest concept BMW unveiled, we tend to forget about the past, right? Or is it the other way around, being reminded of BMW’s might and history with the 3.0CSL Hommage concept? It might just be that the latter choice is the correct one...
Thinking about the original CSL that wrote history in more than one way made us wonder whether we could find one that had a decent price to begin with and in a rather good condition. As faith has it, there’s one for sale right now and it’s not even overpriced if you ask me.
The value of E9 models has been steadily rising lately and, with BMW’s recent introspect into the model, it is bound to go even higher. Out of all of them, the CSL is the most desirable and, at the same time, the most expensive to purchase.
The one we found was priced at £59,995 (€81,855 or $91,693) and it seems to be in absolute pristine condition. Sure, at first, it might seem like a high price tag but it’s due to the state in which the Bimmer is that it’s really not.
Usually, when restoring such a model you need at least two more donor cars. Chip those into the final price tag of such a project and the work that has to be done as well and you’ll find that it’s easy to go over the $100,000 limit.
Unfortunately, there is one problem with it and that’s the fact that it’s right-hand drive. Since RHD countries are definitely not the norm but the exception, for a prospective buyer, it might be a deal-breaker.
Other than that, everything looks unbelievable, from the interior to the exterior and even the mechanical bits as the engine has been completely rebuilt by a BMW-trained technician. All you need now is the money and you’ll be set.
