1966 witnessed the debut of the fifth-generation Fairlane, and Ford decided it was the right moment to introduce several notable channels, beginning with the return of previously retired packages.
The XL, GT, and GTA versions made a comeback, providing customers with exclusive options – for example, Ford offered the GTA with the all-new SportShift Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission as standard.

The American carmaker also ditched the 289 V8 engine, though the car continued to be available with a 200 six-cylinder engine for customers interested in fuel economy and with more powerful V8s for adrenaline seekers. This year's top engine choice was the 427, available on the R-code Fairlane 500 with 425 horsepower.

A 1966 Fairlane recently received a second chance to return to the road after someone discovered it in storage and decided to post it online for more exposure. The car is looking for a complete restoration if a professional restorer is ready to take on a challenging job, though the best option is to inspect it personally, considering eBay seller clospenuf didn't share too many specifics.

Described as a barn find, this Fairlane certainly looks like a vehicle that's been sitting for a very long time. It flexes the typical barn dust, but it's unclear if it also comes with rust and other metal problems. The rust damage is likely in the usual places, such as the floors and the trunk, but this depends on many factors, including how long the Fairlane has been sitting in the barn and the storage conditions.

It's also hard to tell if the vehicle is complete, especially because the engine has already been removed, so who knows what else is no longer in the car.

As a Fairlane GTA, this barn find rolled off the assembly lines with a 390 V8 that developed 335 horsepower thanks to a four-barrel carburetor. The same engine is still around, but the seller says they also have a secondary 390 if the buyer wants a backup mill. None of the two engines are in the car, so the buyer will also have to install either the original mill or the replacement unit before bringing the Fairlane back to the road.

The biggest shortcoming in the car's return to the road is certainly the selling price. The owner posted the Fairlane on eBay for auction with a $5,500 starting bid. Considering the lack of information, most people seem reluctant to bid, so nobody entered the race to take the car home so far. The auction comes without a reserve, meaning whoever sends the top bid wins.

If you want to see the Fairlane in person, you must go to West Burlington, Iowa. You'll need a trailer to take the car and the engines home.
