The 1965 Impala was the king of the automotive castle in the United States, becoming the first car to sell more than 1 million units in a single year after World War II.
It was an achievement that confirmed that Chevrolet's strategy in the previous years worked beautifully, turning the Impala almost into an overnight success. The car debuted in 1958, gained series status in 1959, and became the best-selling model in the United States a few years later.

The 1965 model year was also a turning point for the Impala, as the second half of the decade brought declining sales due to the introduction of other models (which eventually cannibalized its demand).

In 1966, Chevrolet promoted the Caprice to a stand-alone series, causing an important drop in Impala sales. Previously, the Caprice was a version of the Impala, as Chevrolet probably hoped to repeat the 1958 success when the Impala debuted as a Bel Air version.

The Super Sport remained an important catalyst for strong Impala sales, and someone on eBay claims they have the perfect example for someone drooling over an Impala SS.

It doesn't cost a fortune because it's a project, it doesn't have an engine, so you can put anything in there, and the rust hasn't yet wrecked the metal parts.

The Impala SS has likely been sitting for a long time, but seller bnbautosales doesn't share too many specifics about it. The provided photos indicate the metal has already invaded the body, but it hasn't produced too much damage. They claim the floors are solid, but I'd want to see this with my eyes, as old-school Chevys sitting for years typically suffer from heavy rust damage on the undersides.

The SS was born with a 327 V8 under the hood, but the engine is no longer there. I believe the car previously served as a donor for another project, but the seller claims it's complete, so no big parts except for the engine and the transmission should be missing.

The interior looks like the Impala survived a zombie invasion, with the seats wrecked beyond recovery. The car will need a complete restoration, but the good news is that you can build it how you want, especially given the lack of an engine.

Despite all its problems, this Impala SS doesn't sell cheaply, as the seller believes it's still worth $6,000. That's undoubtedly an ambitious expectation, especially if you look at the interior and take into account the missing engine. However, a perfectly restored Impala SS could be worth ten times more, so your best option is to go to Brookings, South Dakota, to see it in person. The seller also enabled the "Make Offer" button, so you might be able to negotiate the price.
