Every two years, the Le Mans Classic brings together some of the most exciting machines from the archives of motoring history. This year, 18 examples of the most expensive car on the road today, the Ferrari 250 GTO, descended in force upon the track.
With less than 40 ever made, the 250 GTO is very sought after. And if all of these cars would be as valuable one example that recently sold for $35 million, we would be looking at no less than $630 million.
The 250 GTO was a GT produced by Ferrari themselves between 1962 and 1964 for the FIA Group 3 Grand Touring Car racing category. Power came from a 3.0-liter V12 that generated 300 horsepower, which is a lot considering it only weighed 1,100 kilograms (2,425 lbs).
It’s nice to see and hear such exciting and rare cars are still doing what they were designed for: track use.
