SSC Tuatara, the car developed to take the “World’s Fastest Production Car” crown from the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, is almost production ready, the American company announced.
With final testing having been completed and validated after three years of engineering, SSC North America boss Jarod Shelby said the Tuatara supercar delivered staggering results on the dyno. The announcement also revealed that the newly developed twin turbo 6.9-liter V8 engine will produce 1,350 HP and 1,280 lb-ft (1,733 Nm) of torque when running on 91 octane gasoline.

Furthermore, SSC claims the mill is able to develop more than 1,700 HP if tweaked accordingly, adding that the ludicrous output could be offered to “owners that don't want or need to be buffered by regulations”.

"This is a proud moment for all that were part of the engineering team on this project. This amazingly versatile package has already shown that it can easily be driven on a daily basis in any climate or environment in the world and at the same time can roll out of the pit area onto a track like Nurburgring and easily handle any rigors that record will require. Versatile, efficient, docile, savage... Engineering success!" says SSC founder and lead designer Jerod Shelby.

While no further details have been released, SSC North America anxiously announced that the Tuatara “is going to be an exciting car that redefines the supercar industry”.
