The Cayman isn’t exactly the most exciting Porsche you can currently buy, though it is light and the engine sits in the middle of the car. Changing to a four-cylinder turbo boxer still polarizes enthusiasts, but that’s not a problem with older models that feature six pots and natural aspiration.
Jordon Musser, who describes himself as an engineering executive as well as a racecar driver and fast car builder, has one of those older Caymans but his 987 is far from stock. As the headline implies, the green machine in the photo gallery and video is a 1,210-horsepower monster that’s ripping the rear tires to shreds at the gentlest tap of the loud pedal. And yes, it’s V8!
Originally offered with six-cylinder Boxer motors with displacements from 2.7 to 3.4 liters, this second-generation Cayman features eight cylinders and 6.2 liters of small-block goodness under the hood. Musser has also swapped the transmission for a six-speed manual from the Lamborghini Gallardo, featuring a modified sixth-gear ratio for better driveability on the highway.
The insane build also comes with an appropriate license plate, namely POORSCH as a tongue-in-cheek reference to how many people pronounce the manufacturer’s name. Por-Shuh is correct, two syllables instead of Porsch or Parsh. Having said these, let’s talk about the engine.
You’re not looking at the LS3, oh no! Musser has gifted the Cayman S with an LSA boasting ported heads, a custom cam, and a dry-sump crankshaft from the LS3. A 250-amp alternator has also been installed along with a custom accessory drive as well as a remote-mounted water pump.
With two turbochargers on deck, the LSA cranks out 959 pound-feet of torque as per the dyno sheet. The one-off build further includes bigger brakes from StopTech, Ohlins coilovers, as well as a widebody kit with striking similarities to the 911 GT3 RS. As for the paint, well, that’s not Porsche. The owner went with a Verde Ithaca from Lamborghini, a.k.a. paint code 0077.
