Convincing a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 to churn out 1,100 horsepower at the wheels sounds like pure madness... because it is. And when you’ve got such a machine at hand, the combination between its massive feel and the ridiculous muscle makes you feel invincible. Alas, there will always be one guy out there who’s faster than you and we are here to show you how such a monster Jeep gets left behind in a drag strip battle.
Before you move on to the clip below, which shows the drag fight, let’s get into the details of the SUV. The workout job was handled by D3 Performance Engineering, which came with a custom-built 88-mm turbocharger.
Delivering 19 lbs of boost, this persuades the V8 to churn out no less than 1,105 AWHP and 1,155 AWTQ (1,565 Nm at the wheels). Not bad for a creature that tips the scales at 5,200 lbs (2,359 kg).
The video shows us the Jeep playing the drag strip game and taking things gradually - the runs start with a lower boost, which is gradually increased. Basically, each run adds 100 hp until the aforementioned output is reached.
There is one piece missing from this puzzle though, as the guys want to launch the Jeep at higher rpms, but haven’t figured out all the transmission mysteries yet.
Nonetheless, the Jeep fun goes well, until the SUV decides to take on a hypermoded Camaro. If we’re not mistaking, this is a 1,600 hp Camaro we had seen before, so the result of their fight is obvious.
